Austin Salyer

The Texas State University ROTC Command that Austin was a part of will be having a Celebration of Life for Austin on Friday, Nov. 12th at 10 AM.

The exact location on the campus is to be determined.

This wonderful tribute was written by the Salyer family's neighbor. It is a wonderful tribute to a wonderful young man. We wanted to share this story with you:

Austin's Story

Last week, the Salyer family received the worst news a family could receive. Their son, Austin Salyer, was senselessly taken from them unnecessarily and far too soon.  He was shot and killed while sleeping in his bed by the negligent firing of a handgun in the neighboring apartment.  He was such a good young man who had his whole life ahead of him.  He was a 4.0 student at Texas State University who had just the previous week contracted with ROTC so he could commission in the Army upon graduation, with dreams of joining the Infantry and eventually moving into law enforcement/SWAT.

Austin and his parents, Bonnie & Rodney have a connection with one of our heroes - Dan Licardo - because Dan actually taught them gun safety and how to properly fire a handgun.  The family felt it fitting to ask friends and family to consider donating to Spirit of a Hero in Dan's name.
